City of Erie Facing $3.3 Million Budget Deficit

According to a mid-year financial report, the city of Erie is facing a $3.3 million dollar budget deficit.

Much of the deficit comes from a reduced influx in earned income taxes, after the pandemic caused drastic reductions in the number of people working in the city.

City finance director Paul Lichtenwalter says some of the shortfall will be made the no-travel policy for city employees. and a potential deal with Erie Water Works for a long-term lease of the water system could fill the deficit hole as well.

The next finance meeting between the administration and city council is scheduled for August 5th.
