Mayor Schember has written back in response to a letter he received from members of the local NAACP last week.
In the letter, the Mayor says, “We still have much work to do in eliminating racism” and cites steps his administration has taken to promote diversity.
The mayor also said he is open to meeting with the branch’s president to discuss the issue.
Schember’s letter is dated Friday and was addressed to chapter President Gary Horton, but it was distributed publicly by the mayor’s staff on Thursday.
