Governor Wolf Urges Lawmakers to Legalize Marijuana

Governor Wolf is again urging state lawmakers to legalize recreational marijuana.

Wolf first made the pitch last year but renewed the call Thursday, saying legalization will help the state recover from the coronavirus pandemic.

The governor says right now, the commonwealth has “a desperate need for the economic boost that the legalization of cannabis could provide.”

According to a 2018 report from the state auditor general, regulating and taxing marijuana in Pennsylvania could generate nearly $600 million each year.

The governor said half of the revenue from cannabis would go to businesses that are recovering from the pandemic. The other half would go to restorative justice.
