Erie School Board Votes to Furlough Employees

The Erie school board last night voted unanimously to furlough 50 employees.

The furloughed positions include teaching assistants, custodians, and some non-instructional employees such as some Erie School District police officers.

Employees affected will still receive health insurance through the end of October.

In his report to school directors, Superintendent Brian Polito said the pandemic forced the district to pivot online learning and other make other changes that ultimately led to the furloughs.

The furloughs begin on September 16th.
