Former City Council President Pleads Guilty to Charges

Former Erie City Council President Sonya Arrington pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges including wire fraud.

Authorities say Arrington embezzled approximately 70 thousand dollars from her nonprofit “Mothers Against Teen Violence” between 2011 and 2018.

Arrington allegedly used a debit card attached to the nonprofit at Presque Isle Downs & Casino.

During a change of plea hearing Tuesday, Arrington pleaded guilty to charges of wire fraud and submitting false paperwork to the government.

Sentencing is scheduled for February.
