Former NFL cornerback Adam 'Pacman' Jones was arrested again following an incident in which he was drunk in public and "intentionally" threw an elbow at a police officer's face while detained, according to new court documents obtained by TMZ Sports.
Jones, 41, was charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place, disorderly conduct and assaulting a police officer and placed in custody at the Kenton County Detention Center in Covington, Kentucky, early Saturday (June 7) morning. The former NFL cornerback was questioned by police outside a bar at around 12:45 a.m. local time, at which point he reportedly showed signs of intoxication, including "glossy eyes" and "slurred speech," according to the documents via TMZ Sports.
"Officers determined [Jones] to be a danger to himself and others in his current intoxicated state," the documents state. "[Jones] was causing annoyance and alarm to the pedestrians nearby."
Jones "intentionally threw his elbow upwards" while handcuff, striking an officer in the face and "causing the inside of [the cop's] lip to bleed," according to the documents via TMZ Sports. A representative for Jones downplayed the charges in a statement released publicly after his arrest.
"Adam did nothing wrong other than exercise his right to ask why he was being detained -- a fundamental question that every citizen should be allowed to ask without fear of retaliation," the statement reads via TMZ Sports. "Initially, officers claimed he was being arrested for assault, then shifted to public intoxication (which, in itself, is not a crime in many jurisdictions unless it leads to dangerous behavior), and finally settled on disorderly conduct -- simply for asking why he was being detained."
Jones has had several incidents with the law dating back to his playing career. In November, the former cornerback was booked into Dearborn County Jail on one single count of suspicion of disorderly conduct. Jones was previously charged with intoxication and terroristic threatening for an incident that took place on an airplane in September 2023.
Jones was placed on probation during the 2005 NFL Draft for a fight that took place during his collegiate career at West Virginia and later charged in a Las Vegas strip club shooting, as well as several other incidents. The Georgia native was selected by the Tennessee Titans at No. 6 overall in the 2005 NFL Draft before being traded to the Dallas Cowboys in 2008.
Jones spent the 2009 season with the Winnipeg Blue bombers before eight seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals (2010-17) and one season with the Denver Broncos (2018).
