Winter Olympics Day 4 Results: USA's 'Quad God' Leads Men's Skating Singles

Team USA's Ilia 'Quad God' Malinin won the men's single figure skating short program, qualifying for the top spot in the free skate competition with a strong performance during the fourth day of competition at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics on Tuesday (February 9).

Malinin, 21, who had already won gold by pulling off his signature quad axel and landing a backflip on one leg in the team event on Sunday (February 8), scored a 108.16 to finish the day in first place, edging Japan's Yuma Kagiyama's score of 103.07, who outscored Malinin in the short program during the team event. The American's performance included 'Dies Irae' by náttúa and 'The Lost Crown' by 2WEI.

The USA Women's hockey team defeated rival Canada, 5-0, in its Group A preliminary matchup on Tuesday, hours after a 5-0 rout of Switzerland on Monday., with Hannah Bilka scoring twice and Abbey Murphy recording three assists. Team USA's Korey Dropkin and Cory Thiesse -- who became first American female curler to medal at the Olympics -- lost to Swedish siblings Isabella and Rasmus Wranå in the curling mixed doubles final, taking silver, the best finish for an American team since mixed doubles were initially included in the Winter Olympics in 2018.

Americans Jacqueline Wiles and Paula Moltzan took bronze in the women's combined skiing event, while the heavily favored Breezy Johnson and Mikaela Shiffin finished fourth.
