This Week's Weird News 10/17/25

A creepy clown panic gripping a Minnesota community, a mystery creature that menaced surfers in Uruguay, and a tarot-reading cat that has become an online sensation were among the weird and wondrous stories to cross our desk this past week.

Mysterious aquatic animals stole the spotlight this past week thanks to two rather intriguing videos. First, in Uruguay, footage emerged of a group of surfers being menaced by an unidentified creature that one witness described as being three feet wide, emitting sounds similar to a whale, but also sporting peculiar "little scales" that ran along its spine. Meanwhile, indefatigable Loch Ness webcam watcher Eoin O’Faodhagain captured what may be one of his best virtual sightings to date when he spotted what appeared to be a long-necked creature extending its head out of the water at the famed Scottish site. The mysterious form bore an uncanny resemblance to classic depictions of Nessie, leaving some to wonder if the legendary 'monster' had legitimately popped up on the livestream.

This past week featured two decidedly different stories surrounding fortune tellers, beginning with a case from Pennsylvania in which a pair of self-proclaimed psychics were arrested for allegedly bilking their clients out of more than $600,000. The cautionary tale told far too often saw the soothsayers convince two separate women that they needed to fork over considerable funds to facilitate the removal of a troublesome curse that had befallen them. On a lighter note, later in the week featured the story of a tarot-reading cat that has become an online sensation. The rescue animal, named Cole, has developed a sizeable online following for its videos showcasing the feline shuffling and then choosing specific cards in a process that its owner says produces remarkably insightful results.

With Halloween fast approaching, it's only fitting that this past week featured a fresh account of creepy clowns causing trouble in a community. The case in question is currently unfolding in the Minnesota city of Cloquet, where police have received two reports of haunting harlequins over the last few weeks. Beyond those official accounts, residents have flooded local social media with their own tales of encountering the clowns, which are said to chase youngsters down the street. With rumors spreading that the troublemakers were wielding weapons, police have assured residents that they are on the lookout for the harlequins, who we hope do not inspire a wave of copycats this spooky season.
